After two decades of working as a Bank officer, Uma decided to quit banking and follow her childhood dream of painting full-time.

Between 2008 and 2012 she traveled to Israel and studied art from the Israeli artist Hagit Shahal.  She then held her first solo exhibition called "Landscapes through my eyes" in Tel Aviv in 2012. Her second solo Exhibition titled "Black, White And Shades Of Grey" was held at the Artists' Centre, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai in 2014.

She has also participated in various group exhibitions in Israel and India (Tel Aviv, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Mumbai) during the period 2009-2015.

Uma works with oils, acrylics and water colours, and brings a distinctive style to her art. She also loves drawing and uses pencil, charcoal, pastels or ink to capture her imagination and experiences. Lately, she has also been experimenting with digital art.
