Bappaditya Roy Chowdhury

The first thing you notice about Bappaditya’s work is his palette of bold colours. It almost looks as though his artwork is ablaze. Then, the striking ‘abstract cubist’ influence kicks in. But look closer, and you find an assortment of styles. Among the bold abstracts, lie the subtle and more subdued landscapes. His creations are often a fusion. Nature and humanity presented in abstract forms.

Bappaditya believes in creating art that transcends the bounds of material and time, yet staying grounded in the realities of life. A paradox really, his work is fundamentally about people, and the interpretation of their emotions in the deepest recesses of the psyche. An attempt to uncover the truth behind eyes that are open, yet impenetrable. His artwork is also often about women, and their myriad emotions and experiences as they voyage through life.

At its heart, his work is stunning and reflective. Aesthetic and deep. Much like a storm brewing beneath the calm surface of an ocean under a night sky.

Bappaditya holds a BVA Degree from the Indian College of Arts & Draftsmanship, Kolkata. He was awarded the Dilip Das Gupta Memorial Award from the Indian Society of Oriental Art, Kolkata in 2003.  Some of his more noted exhibitions and participations in recent years are as below.
